Print Processing Tech Tips: Blobs and Zits

Today, we’re focusing on blobs and zits.

Problem

All materials are susceptible to blobs and zits, which causes the surface finish to not look good. Blob and zits can happen for a lot of reasons:

Blobs_and_Zits_Bad

Failed Print: The print has several blobs and zits on the outside of the print, lowering the quality of the completed part.

Retraction settings are not set correctly. These settings should be adjusted to avoid over-extrusion at a starting or stopping point of the extruder.

The retraction distance can cause a bad print if set up at .10 mm.

If you use random start points for all perimeters, you can bet that you’ll end up with a bad print.

Solution

Proper settings are essential for smooth layers. Try these out for a smoother finish:

  1. Set your retraction distance at 1.10 mm.
  2. Choose a start point closest to a specific location.
