#AMUG2017 Presentation: Fused Filament Masters for Castings & Molds

Only five more days until the Additive Manufacturing Users Group conference (#AMUG2017), and attendees have a variety of presentations and hands-on workshops to select from. One in particular, Fused Filament Masters for Castings and Molds, will take place on Thursday, March 23 from 10:30 to 11:00 am.

Decreasing Design & Build Time

Mark Huebner, Market Development Manager for 3D Platform (3DP), will discuss the potential of 3d printing to shorten the design and build time for casting and mold applications. He’ll also explain how reaching the desired ROI isn’t as simple as pushing an “easy button”. It takes an understanding and working together a variety of components, such as:

  • FFF print capabilities
  • Nozzle size, layer height, print time, and surface finish comparison
  • Post processing techniques
  • Components surface finish requirements
  • Use case and specifications
  • Casting or mold processing to be used

3D printing for mold castings

3D printing has great potential to shorten the design and build time for casting and mold applications.

Showing the practical application of these areas will be a case study featuring a company who went from spending $50,000 per year to print parts for casting masters with an outside service, to having their own large format printer in-house that paid for itself in the first six months.

Make Your Move

After the presentations on Wednesday and Thursday night, join the fun in the Grand Ballroom on the second floor of the Hilton Chicago. Attendees have a chance to participate in a GIANT speed chess tournament and win an Ultimaker 2 Extended+, a complete Dremel Pro tool kit, filament, and lot more!
